An Easy Love

I found these words this week, through a devotional I've been doing with my friend. They are the word of St. Gemma, a catholic saint who died at 25. She was orphaned at 19, developed tubercolosis and after a year of painful suffering, was miraculously healed.

In her pain, she walked a spiritual journey to where she gave over her suffering as a way of service to God and penned these words, which even at my healthiest, I am still learning and sometimes too easily forget and dismiss.

They are honest, they are true, they are heartfelt and they speak directly to a place in me, that constantly wonders if I am still accepted. If he still loves me. If I am still worth his death on the cross for me.

St. Gemma's words remind me that his answer is always 'Yes'. He says yes. He does love me, now and always. No matter what I do or don't do. There's nothing I could do to make him love me more than he already does. He already loves me to the ends of the earth. There's nothing I could do to make him love me less.

He never expected anything of me... He just is Love, itself.

I hope her words will remind you that his is is an easy love.

Let Him love you.

"It is an easy love, oh Jesus,
to love Someone that never gets angry with those who offend Him.

Many times I have seen, oh Jesus,
that while justice demands that I be punished,
You take steps to prevent this punishment,
even to have it withdrawn.

I have found a Jesus so infatuated with my heart that He knows not how to embitter it . . .

He wants everything for Himself in reparation for my sins.
It is almost a lucky break for me to have been born a sinner,
because the veins of my Lord are always open,
full of that Sacramental Blood!"

- Catholic Saint Gemma Galgani
